In the summer of 2015, I interned at Amazon as a Software Development Engineer intern. Working on the Kindle Sampling team, I prototyped and developed the redesign of the kindle sampling experience on the mobile browser to provide users with a better experience.
How can we improve the sampling experience of kindle books on the mobile web browser?
Amazon’s sampling experience on a kindle mobile browser provided limited functionality for users. Users could only change the size of the text and had no other way of interacting with the book preview. There was also no easy way to navigate through the book or to purchase the book without leaving the preview. Additional features would make users feel more in control of their online interactions.
The mobile website’s redesign contains a menu that helps users navigate easily through the book by giving quick access to important points, such as the beginning of the book, the table of contents, and the end. A one-click buy button was also added within the sampling interface to make check out more convenient.
The redesign also included several other features I worked on, but since they are not yet in production, my NDA prevents me from giving any detail on them.
Special thanks to my mentor Dunam Kim and my manager Hakim Murtaza for all the guidance throughout the project.
